Preservation Methods
Baci offers two types of gown preservation.
- Boxing
- Bagging
No matter what type of preservation you choose, you should keep your preserved gown in a climate-controlled area. DO NOT put your preserved gown in a roof, garage, or in a cupboard next to a bathroom or laundry where temperatures and humidity levels will fluctuate dramatically. Variations in temperatures increase the deterioration rate of fabrics.
Remember, museum conservators recommendations are: Keep it clean, cool, dry and wrinkle free.
Boxed
Boxed preservation involves your dress being cleaned and pressed, and then folded into an acid-free box. This is the most popular method of preservation due to space constraints.
The fabric can still breathe. And you will be able to refold your gown periodically. This will help protect your gown from getting permanent creases.
Bagging your Wedding Gown
This method keeps the dress protected from dust and light. The gown remains un-folded, so permanent creasing risks are reduced. The bag allows the gown to breathe, which is essential in protecting the gown from mould and mildew. A bagged gown is the easiest to inspect periodically and requires no re-folding as the boxed method does.
All gowns are reinforced with satin ribbon loops to add support, and eliminate any damage from long-term hanging. A padded hanger is essential for long-term storage.
The bagged gown should always be kept in climate-controlled conditions. This is easily done in most wardrobes.
